Wills, Trusts and Estates

Wills and Trusts are the vehicles through which we leave a legacy for loved ones, charities, our alma maters or other organizations that are near and dear to us, after we are gone. These instruments can provide financial security for those we have relied upon in our lives or for those who need our help, and must be drafted correctly in order to achieve our goals. Accounting for the financial consequences of taxes is also critical to end-of-life planning. If not planned for properly, taxes can greatly reduce the amount that loved ones will inherit, but knowledgeable planning can often lessen their impact or eliminate them entirely.

Other end-of-life planning involves deciding who will make our health and financial decisions if we ever become unable to, and what medical measures should be taken to preserve our life.

Finally, when a loved one does leave us, their property and belongings must be legally transferred to their heirs or beneficiaries, whether they had prepared a Will or not. This time and energy-consuming process involves petitioning the Court system, contacting possibly far-flung relatives and providing the Court with much documentation. An experienced attorney can smooth the process, take your mind off the details and allow you to focus on the important things.
